Average Cost of a Website Redesign: 2026 Breakdown

August 24, 2026

Between January 2024 and July 2026, our research team analyzed website redesign pricing from published agency rate cards, freelance marketplaces, and industry benchmark reports covering more than 40 web design and development firms across the U.S. and Canada. For small and midsize businesses, the average redesign costs approximately $28,500, although actual project prices range from about $3,000 to more than $75,000. Enterprise projects can exceed that range by a significant margin. This report explains what drives redesign costs, including business size, project scope, and, most importantly, industry.

Average Cost of a Website Redesign by Business Size

Annual Revenue Most Common Provider Typical Page Count Average Redesign Cost Range
Under $250,000 Freelancer or DIY/template 5 – 10 pages $3,000 – $9,000
$250,000 – $500,000 Freelancer or boutique agency 10 – 15 pages $8,000 – $18,000
$500,000 – $1M Boutique agency 15 – 25 pages $15,000 – $30,000
$1M – $2.5M Boutique or mid-size agency 25 – 40 pages $25,000 – $50,000
$2.5M – $5M Mid-size agency 40 – 60 pages $45,000 – $80,000
$5M – $10M Full-service agency 60+ pages $70,000 – $150,000+

Redesign budgets don’t scale with revenue in a straight line; they scale with how much functional complexity a business’s website has to support. A $10 million company selling one service through a five-page site can spend less than a $600,000 e-commerce shop juggling hundreds of SKUs. Still, revenue is a useful proxy, because larger businesses typically carry more pages and more integrations by the time they redesign. Additionally, once a business crosses into custom integrations (booking systems, CRMs, gated content, multi-location pages), cost accelerates faster than page count alone would suggest.

Average Cost of a Website Redesign by Project Scope

Project Component Average Cost Range What Drives the Range
Sitemap & IA planning $500 – $2,500 Page count, number of stakeholder review rounds
Existing brand/content audit $1,000 – $5,000 Audit depth, page count, accessibility scope
UX/UI design (page templates) $3,000 – $15,000 Number of unique templates, custom vs. themed
Responsive front-end development $5,000 – $25,000+ Framework choice, custom interactions, breakpoints
Content migration & copywriting ~$175 per page Page count, full rewrite vs. migrate-as-is
CMS setup & integrations $2,000 – $20,000+ Platform, number of third-party integrations
SEO redirect mapping $1,000 – $5,000 URL count, backlink and ranking complexity
Accessibility (WCAG) compliance $1,500 – $5,000, plus $350-$550 per page to fix Compliance level required, page count

In regard to scope of work, most quotes actually bundle such components, but breaking them apart shows where the money really goes and ultimately, which pieces are safe to phase in later. That said, content migration and accessibility work are the two most commonly underbid line items; both scale directly with page count, so a business that lowballs its page estimate at the sitemap stage often eats the difference later as a change order.

Average Cost of a Website Redesign by Industry

The table below spans 22 “small-business-heavy” industries across services, retail, food and hospitality, trades, and professional services. Figures are directional estimates built from published agency and industry pricing data, not a single hard survey number since per-industry redesign pricing isn’t tracked as consistently as overall market ranges.

Industry Average Redesign Cost Range Primary Cost Driver
E-Commerce / DTC Retail $15,000 – $75,000 Product catalog, payment gateway, inventory sync
Real Estate Brokerages $15,000 – $45,000 IDX/MLS integration, dynamic listings, map search
Boutique Hotels & B&Bs $10,000 – $30,000 Booking engine, live availability, photo galleries
Financial & Wealth Advisory $10,000 – $30,000 Compliance-reviewed content, secure client portals
Personal Injury & Legal Services $8,000 – $25,000 Case-result galleries, intake forms, competitive local SEO
IT Services & MSPs $8,000 – $25,000 Service-tier pages, case studies, lead-gen funnels
Specialty Food & Grocery Retail $8,000 – $25,000 Online ordering, delivery/pickup integration
Dental Practices $8,000 – $20,000 Patient portals, online scheduling
General Contracting & Design-Build $8,000 – $20,000 Project portfolios, estimate/lead-capture forms
Veterinary Clinics $6,000 – $18,000 Appointment scheduling, pharmacy add-ons
Independent Boutique Apparel $6,000 – $18,000 Product catalog, lookbook galleries
Roofing Contractors $6,000 – $16,000 Before/after galleries, financing tools
Accounting & Tax Preparation $5,000 – $15,000 Secure client portals, document upload tools
HVAC Contractors $5,000 – $15,000 Service-area pages, financing calculators
Plumbing Services $5,000 – $15,000 Emergency-service CTAs, local service-area pages
Fitness Studios & Gyms $5,000 – $15,000 Class scheduling, membership portals
Electricians $5,000 – $14,000 Service-area pages, licensing/certification display
Hair Salons & Day Spas $4,000 – $12,000 Online booking, service menus, gift-card sales
Landscaping & Lawn Care $4,000 – $12,000 Seasonal service pages, quote-request tools
Auto Repair Shops $4,000 – $10,000 Service menus, online scheduling
Restaurants (Full-Service) $3,000 – $10,000 Menu updates, reservation platform integration
Coffee Shops & Cafes $3,000 – $8,000 Online ordering integration, location pages

E-commerce sits at the top of this list for a specific reason: unlike a service business’s brochure site, an online store’s redesign touches the product catalog, checkout flow, payment gateway, shipping logic, and inventory sync all at once; and each of those has to be tested and migrated without breaking a live revenue channel. That layered complexity, plus PCI-compliance requirements around payment handling, is what consistently pushes the e-commerce quotes well past a standard business site. The data also suggests that service-based industries all sit within somewhat of proximity, mainly differing by factors like the services’ value, frequency, and opportunity cost.

Where Redesigns Run Cheapest

Industry Average Redesign Cost Range
Coffee Shops & Cafes $3,000 – $8,000
Restaurants (Full-Service) $3,000 – $10,000
Auto Repair Shops $4,000 – $10,000
Landscaping & Lawn Care $4,000 – $12,000

These industries tend to have the lowest website redesign costs because their websites generally require fewer pages and less dynamic content. A menu, business hours, location details, and contact form often cover most of their needs. Their straightforward, template-friendly structures also mean they typically do not require custom booking systems, licensing displays, or extensive compliance reviews. In addition, customers usually make decisions based on local search factors such as proximity, hours, and reviews rather than completing a lengthy research and comparison process.

Where Redesigns Run Most Expensive

Industry Average Redesign Cost Range
E-Commerce / DTC Retail $15,000 – $75,000
Real Estate Brokerages $15,000 – $45,000
Boutique Hotels & B&Bs $10,000 – $30,000
Financial & Wealth Advisory $10,000 – $30,000

These industries tend to have the highest redesign costs for several related reasons. Their websites often depend on dynamic, third-party data, such as property listings, room availability, and product inventory, which requires live integrations rather than static pages. Payment processing, financial disclosures, and HIPAA-related patient data can also introduce additional security requirements, compliance reviews, and development time. Finally, these businesses typically sell high-value services or products that require more research before a purchase. As a result, their websites must handle more of the conversion process, including educating prospects, building trust, and guiding them toward a decision.

Conclusion

For a small business owner, the practical takeaway is to scope by function, not by budget anchor: start with a sitemap and content audit before requesting quotes, since that single step is what keeps a $10,000 estimate from becoming a $20,000 invoice once migration and integrations get added mid-project. The redesigns that succeed are rarely the most expensive ones; they’re the ones where scope was defined before design started, and where every added feature was tied to a specific business outcome rather than a general “nice to have.”
